been too long, as usual...

just realized my last post on here was in July. wow. and my girls have said and done so many funny things between then and now...

Paigey is all over the place, walking (running), getting into the dog food, the pancake batter and whatever else is not locked away in some cabinet. she loves all things cell phones, remote control, and ipod... if you can say, "hi dada!" into it, it is instantly a phone to her.

Jordyn is four and full of life. maybe overflowing. we often say how she is just exactly like my great grandma jan who past away just over a year ago... sees every little detail, loves each little moment and person who comes down her path. a couple days ago we were driving out of a parking lot when she rolls down her window and yells to a young college student walking by carrying a guitar case, "Hey guitar boy! I like your guitar!" she loves to have a project to work on, loves to paint, to learn, to read, to cuddle, to watch a good movie with someone she loves and is currently beckoning me to come cuddle her to sleep, and i think i will go do that and turn on "let them be little." they are only this way for a while... i'll see what brilliant thing i can remember her saying over the past few months soon... right now i am going to cuddle a sweet girl and enjoy this moment...

do you happen to have a meatball shooter?

A post from after a sleepover at Mimi and Papa's-
Cuddled up with Miss Jordypie in Mimi & Papa's bed after a fun day celebrating Paiglet's 1st birthday.... We've brushed our teeth, read our books, said our prayers, lights are out and it's already past 10-- when all of a sudden she whispers, "Mimi, I have a GREAT idea! For my birthday do you think we could get a "meatball shooter" and have it shoot meatballs up into the air and Roxy (her doggy) could run and catch them???? And could I also have a carousel????"
Where does that sweet pixie come up with all these GREAT ideas?? Still chuckling-- and she's still sweetly asleep in our bed!!!!!
"I've gotta feeling that today's going to be a great day, that today's going to be a great day, that today's going to be a great, great day!!"

broken arms and kept promises

I remember about four years ago, sitting up in the NICU at st jude, which at the time overlooked the entrance to their ER. My sweet little Jordyn was less than a month old and only two pounds. So sweet, fragile and fresh into this world, just hoping she'd make it healthy and strong through her first difficult days and weeks in the world.

Holding that sweet little girl up against my chest I looked down and saw a daddy carrying a little girl, about 7 years old in her soccer jersey into the ER. The girl had an ice pack taped onto her leg and her arms wrapped around her daddy's neck... "someday," I remember thinking, "I will rejoice that we are coming to the hospital with some injury. I will rejoice because it means this little tiny baby has made it. that she can not just walk, she can run (and run into things), jump (and jump off of things), climb (or in some cases fall off of things)." someday, we will be that family, worried about our sweet little girl, not because we worry about her next breath, but because she is so full of life that she is here for something as simple as a broken bone or a sprained ankle. and i will rejoice because of that." I held that little sweet two pound baby in my arms and wondered if someday would ever come.

and so today someday came.

my precocious four year old, making a daring leap from the swings to the monkey bars in our back yard... "trying to be in the circus" as she explained to the xray technician this afternoon... a fractured radius, tears streaming down her sweet face, and my heart aches for her... and as a mom I wish I could go back to being able to protect her... to hold her in my arms... because today its a broken arm, but my little anxious heart begins to worry, what about tomorrow? what if it's a broken heart? or worse? i think of my sweet cousin, battling with a vicious disease... my heart as a mother aches, thinking of how we fight for our children, and some days all we do to protect them still seems to fall short of what we wish we could provide.

but here we are, and god has given me this treasure, full of life, zeal, joy, and adventure... and I think about that little baby, He was the one who carried her then, He is the one I must trust now and again each new day. He has carried us through the hard times and will carry us over and over.

the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never come to an end. they are new every morning. for each season. for each heart ache. the ones that seem small to me now, but may feel looming when they approach. the ones that seem insurmountable now. His mercies are new for that day. and the next. and the next. and the next. He provides for us, and carries us each day. and today, as I get ready to close my eyes, I remember that little baby, and how someday I would carry my little girl with a broken something into a doctor's office...

and so tonight my little four year old Jordyn sleeps with her arm in a splint, waiting for that pink cast tomorrow. and i remember that despite the tears, pain and doubt of today, that today is actually a reminder that God has taken care of her, and will continue to each day.

Me: "Does it smell like someone pooped in here?"
Jordyn: "No, it smells like roses!"

Earlier regarding a mess made in the carseat (on accident...
J: "Mommy, I promise I will NEVER make a mess again."
Me: "Well, I'm holding you to that."

calling heaven...

some of you may know my great grandma passed away a year ago this past weekend... she was such a treasure ... saw beauty in everyday details, loved deeply, gave freely and made each moment a moment to treasure....

she and jordyn had an extra special connection... two peas in a pod. Jordyn really has so much of gram in her...

Here's a little smilebox of the two of them.

This morning Jordyn told Paige and I we needed to be quiet, she was trying to make a phone call.

"Oh, who are you calling, Jordyn?"

"I'm trying to call heaven to talk to Great Grandma Jan. Now please keep it down so I can talk... Hello, Grandma, it's Jordyn. How are you? Are you feeling good? Oh, I'm so glad. I love you. I miss you."

thank you, little einsteins

so today, my parents were driving with jordyn down to to the long beach aquarium, when they passed a slew of power lines... you know, those big ones metal ones that are bigger on the bottom and smaller on top....

jordyn, always taking in the details sees the power lines and says, "Wow, Mimi and Papa! Look at all of those Eiffel towers!"

i just love that girl...

the tooth fairy

its bedtime and i just have to post this before i forget...

jordyn is doing her bedtiem routine, bathroom, pjs and brushing her teeth. she made it through the first two steps, but tonight when i said it was time to brush her teeth, she replied quite seriously...

"but Mom, if I brush them, they'll never fall out and the tooth fairy won't get them!"

now there's a way to make some extra cash in a down economy. just stop brushing your teeth, then the tooth fairy will have to come.

Real Football

So today we, along with millions of other people across the country enjoyed the time honored tradition of perching ourselves in front of the tv to watch the superbowl... My two little birds had quite different reactions.

Paige loved it. She discovered what we all have come to know, that the superbowl is all about food and big tvs... She arched her little neck to peer up at the wall mounted tv in my parents living room, quite interested in the larger than life images of the football players and the vibrant colors of the game. She also realized that the game is really a chance to eat food, and as a new eater with developing tastebuds, she was quite upset at us all when we sat bowl with bowls of chili and sppons all headed not to her open mouth but ours...

Jordyn on the other hand decided that she is much more a fan of live sports. The majority of her exposure to football has been going to the friday night high school football games with my parents. Ahh, high school football games, to a three year old mostly about getting popcorn or cotton candy, watching the football players run through the sign, and wondering if someday you too might make the ascent to the lofty role of high school cheerleader... Somewhere around the middle of the third quarter, Jordyn says, "Can we turn this off and go the the real football game?" (meaning the high school game, not the actual superbowl.) She was however quite ammused with the third essential element of the game: the commercials. Highest ranking so far are the one where the sock moneky goes to vegas and the bachelor party saves shamu...

hope you enjoyed your superbowl!

Carolina on my mind...

had so much fun at disneyland the other day... Jordyn cracked me up... Auntie and Tio out in North Carolina must be on her mind... she went on soaring over California for the first time, but kept calling it "soaring over north Carolina"... so sweet.

then we were in the talk with crush show and crush asked Jordyn where she was from, to which she promptly replied, "I'm from North Carolina." when we asked her later she said she just forgot where's she's from... hopefully we will get her out there to visit Auntie and Tio in North Carolina soon... its obviously on her mind. :)

Jordyn and Daddy go Fishing...

Today Steve took Jordyn fishing for a daddy/daughter date... Breakfast for Jordy and Daddy followed by fishing at the lake... they didn't catch any fish (Jordyn throwing rocks in the lake probably didn't help much) but they had a great time!

jordyn and the birdies

so lately birds have been on jordy's mind...

the other day, we were taking a walk and Jordyn stops, points to the electrical wires and asks me, "Mommy, what are those?"
"well, sweetie, those bring electricity to our houses so we can use our lights and tvs, and..."
"oh, I thought we'd just put them up so the birds would have someplace to sit."

---
then yesterday we were driving down harbor blvd past the fox theater. we'd passed it a few days ago and I had told her it had been an old theater. I told her that they used to have movies and popcorn inside and that there were people working to get it all fixed up so it could be used again.... well, yesterday as we drive past it she says, "look, there's that bird feeder."
"The, what?"
"The bird feeder, mommy. where they have all the popcorn and movies for the birds at the feeder. that's what you told me."

---
lastly, a story for those of you who know what a princess lover jordy is...
My parents often have jordyn spend the night once a week or so, and did so a few weeks back. She is just the most delightful little creature in the morning, full of observations and ponderings and snuggles and laughter.
Well, this particular sleepover, they had read a Cinderella book the night before. You know, cinderella, her little mice friends and the glass slipper... here is an excerpt of her favorite part...

The next morning, Jordyn wakes up, turns to my mom and says, " do you hear that?"
"what's that, sweetie?"
"those birdies! do you hear them tweeting?"
"i do!"
"I bet they are out there making ME a dress, just like they did with the mice in CInderella!!"

i love this little girl and her imagination... birds making her dresses, going to the movies and living in a city that puts up power lines so birds have a place to sit... :) She sure makes each day an adventure...

to close, here's jordyn pretending to be cinderella last christmas...

"shaving the car" with jordyn...

We washed our cars at my mom's house this afternoon -

while we were going over the window with the squeegee,
jordyn says, "I want to shave the car!"

now, there's a new ad campaign for squeegees... Squeegees, like razors for your car when it has that five o clock shadow."

playing doctor...

We took Paigey to the doctor today, and Jordyn loves to pretend afterwards that she is our doctor.

"Well Hello Dr. Wu." My Mom and I say as Jordyn comes out, fisher price dr. kit in hand and a pair of my mom's reading glasses perched on top of her little nose....

"Hello," say replies. She picks out the baby doll she will be examining for the day and goes through the doctor process...

She listens to the heart beating, "It sounds like a bug." she reports back.

She gets the reflex hammer out, "Yup, she has knees."

She gets the Otoscope (don't be impressed, I looked it up) and looks in the baby dolls eyes first, followed by the ears.

"what do you see, Jord- I mean, Dr. Wu?" My mom asks.

To which Jordyn replies without hesitation: "I see little red brains."

Oh my, Jordyn, you do make me smile. I wouldn't believe the things you say were true if I wasn't there!

through the bible with jordyn

So we've been reading bible stories every night with jordyn and came across Cain and Able tonight... I happened to leave out the part where Cain kills Able because I thought that might not help with the night terrors and all...

Anyway, I'm telling her the story, at least the abridged version, "Able is bringing God his best sheep, can you find Able?" (She points to Able.)
Me: "And Cain is..."
Jordyn: "Cane? They are both boys though!"
Me: "Cain is be a boys name, Jordyn."
Jordyn: "I don't think so. Cane. Like a Candy Cane. I'm pretty sure that's a girl's name, Mom."
