My Mommy is Never Sick

I had strep throat or something horrible the past couple of days (feeling a bit better thanks to some antibiotics and rest). Being sick was never that big of a deal to me when I worked outside of the home.... so there'd be extra work to catch up on when I came back but really it equated to a day at home, albeit feeling less than stellar, to catch up on movies and take a nap and a bubble bath while someone else does the cooking.

Yesterday the doctor offered to write me a note to take off work for a couple of days. :) Somehow I think if I gave that to Jordyn and Paige, they might not quite understand. These days, staying home from work is not really an option. The past couple days have been salvaged thanks to having wonderful neighborhood kids off from school for the summer who loved on my girls while I napped, went to the doctor, the pharmacy and tried to sleep off the inability to swallow without feeling like daggers were in my throat. :)

Anyhow, the purpose of this post. Jordyn and Paige are current playing with Little People in their room, and Jordyn has one of the kids singing a song...

"My Mommy is never sick!
My Mommy is never sick!
My Mommy is never sick!
Oh, no, no, no!

She never eats sugar,
she eats all her dinner
so she won't get sick!
And she can cuddle with me.

If someone at the supermarket
sneezes in front her,
she runs the other way!!!!!
Yes, My Mommy is never..... EVER.... SICK!!!!"

It made me smile, and made me wish I wasn't sick.... Her primary complaint (as she noted in the song) is that she can't cuddle with me when I am sick. I am glad her world is ideal in Little People Land. :)

And I think that my primary complaint about being sick as a stay at home mom is not really the lack of bubble baths and tivo shows (I've still managed to squeeze a bit of that and early bedtimes in). I think I miss the cuddles the most too. The ability to comfort my children with my very presence and touch is such a humbling and precious gift.

So for those of you not waiting to get results back on a throat culture to tell you if kissing your children will give them strep throat in 2 to 5 days, give them an extra kiss tonight, and getting to cuddle them at 2 in the morning if they had a bad dream. Enjoy kissing your hubby when he walks in the door, and sharing the covers with him tonight even if he's prone to snoring. Enjoying cooking dinner, folding laundry and putting away the dishes without wondering how many germs you might be spreading in the process. Mostly though, enjoy cuddling. :)

Walking on Water

Tonight I got Paigey out of the Bathtub and while I was changing her into her pjs, I hear a bunch of splashing and a very frustrated Jordyn still in the tub. I came back into the bathroom to see Jordyn sitting on the edge of the tub, with quite the discouraged look on her face.

Me: "What's wrong sweetie?"
Jordyn: "Well, Jesus told me to walk on the water, and I am trying so hard to believe in my heart I can do it, but its just not working! What's wrong with this bathtub!?"

I love that the problem wasn't Jesus, the water, or her faith, but the bathtub. :)
May I face the doubts, moments and challenges of tomorrow with childlike faith. “I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it” (Mark 10:15)

Made me think of this song tonight-

Help Me Believe, Nicole Nordeman
Take me back to the time
When I was maybe eight or nine
And I believed
when Jesus walked on waters blue
and If he helped me I could to
If I believed

Before rational analysis and systematic thinking
Robbed me of a sweet simplicity
When wonders and when mysteries
Were far less often silly dreams
and Childhood fantasies

CHORUS:
Help me believe
'cause I don't want to miss any miracles
Maybe i'd see
Much better by closing my eyes
and I would shed this grown up skin I'm in
To touch an Angels wing
And I would be free
Help me believe

When mustard seeds made mountains move
A burning bush that spoke for you
was good enough
when manna fell from heavens high
Just because you told the sky to open up

Am I to wise to recognize that everything uncertain
is certainly a possibility
When logic fails my reasoning
and science crushes underneath
The weight of all that is unseen

When someone else's education
plays upon my reservation
I'm the first to cave
I'm the first to bleed
If I abandoned all that seeks
To make my faith informed and chic
Could you?
would you?
show your self to me?

i suggested she put a "halo" on his head.
her response, "he's got hay all around him mom, not just by his head."
i love her.

been too long, as usual...

just realized my last post on here was in July. wow. and my girls have said and done so many funny things between then and now...

Paigey is all over the place, walking (running), getting into the dog food, the pancake batter and whatever else is not locked away in some cabinet. she loves all things cell phones, remote control, and ipod... if you can say, "hi dada!" into it, it is instantly a phone to her.

Jordyn is four and full of life. maybe overflowing. we often say how she is just exactly like my great grandma jan who past away just over a year ago... sees every little detail, loves each little moment and person who comes down her path. a couple days ago we were driving out of a parking lot when she rolls down her window and yells to a young college student walking by carrying a guitar case, "Hey guitar boy! I like your guitar!" she loves to have a project to work on, loves to paint, to learn, to read, to cuddle, to watch a good movie with someone she loves and is currently beckoning me to come cuddle her to sleep, and i think i will go do that and turn on "let them be little." they are only this way for a while... i'll see what brilliant thing i can remember her saying over the past few months soon... right now i am going to cuddle a sweet girl and enjoy this moment...

do you happen to have a meatball shooter?

A post from after a sleepover at Mimi and Papa's-
Cuddled up with Miss Jordypie in Mimi & Papa's bed after a fun day celebrating Paiglet's 1st birthday.... We've brushed our teeth, read our books, said our prayers, lights are out and it's already past 10-- when all of a sudden she whispers, "Mimi, I have a GREAT idea! For my birthday do you think we could get a "meatball shooter" and have it shoot meatballs up into the air and Roxy (her doggy) could run and catch them???? And could I also have a carousel????"
Where does that sweet pixie come up with all these GREAT ideas?? Still chuckling-- and she's still sweetly asleep in our bed!!!!!
"I've gotta feeling that today's going to be a great day, that today's going to be a great day, that today's going to be a great, great day!!"

broken arms and kept promises

I remember about four years ago, sitting up in the NICU at st jude, which at the time overlooked the entrance to their ER. My sweet little Jordyn was less than a month old and only two pounds. So sweet, fragile and fresh into this world, just hoping she'd make it healthy and strong through her first difficult days and weeks in the world.

Holding that sweet little girl up against my chest I looked down and saw a daddy carrying a little girl, about 7 years old in her soccer jersey into the ER. The girl had an ice pack taped onto her leg and her arms wrapped around her daddy's neck... "someday," I remember thinking, "I will rejoice that we are coming to the hospital with some injury. I will rejoice because it means this little tiny baby has made it. that she can not just walk, she can run (and run into things), jump (and jump off of things), climb (or in some cases fall off of things)." someday, we will be that family, worried about our sweet little girl, not because we worry about her next breath, but because she is so full of life that she is here for something as simple as a broken bone or a sprained ankle. and i will rejoice because of that." I held that little sweet two pound baby in my arms and wondered if someday would ever come.

and so today someday came.

my precocious four year old, making a daring leap from the swings to the monkey bars in our back yard... "trying to be in the circus" as she explained to the xray technician this afternoon... a fractured radius, tears streaming down her sweet face, and my heart aches for her... and as a mom I wish I could go back to being able to protect her... to hold her in my arms... because today its a broken arm, but my little anxious heart begins to worry, what about tomorrow? what if it's a broken heart? or worse? i think of my sweet cousin, battling with a vicious disease... my heart as a mother aches, thinking of how we fight for our children, and some days all we do to protect them still seems to fall short of what we wish we could provide.

but here we are, and god has given me this treasure, full of life, zeal, joy, and adventure... and I think about that little baby, He was the one who carried her then, He is the one I must trust now and again each new day. He has carried us through the hard times and will carry us over and over.

the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never come to an end. they are new every morning. for each season. for each heart ache. the ones that seem small to me now, but may feel looming when they approach. the ones that seem insurmountable now. His mercies are new for that day. and the next. and the next. and the next. He provides for us, and carries us each day. and today, as I get ready to close my eyes, I remember that little baby, and how someday I would carry my little girl with a broken something into a doctor's office...

and so tonight my little four year old Jordyn sleeps with her arm in a splint, waiting for that pink cast tomorrow. and i remember that despite the tears, pain and doubt of today, that today is actually a reminder that God has taken care of her, and will continue to each day.
